First Regional Review of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in the UNECE region
Baku - On 12-13 November 2020, the United Nations Migration Agency - International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) jointly organized a first virtual regional review meeting of the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The purpose of the meeting was to hear about achievements and developments over the implementation of the Global Pact in the UNECE region. The two-day event reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the Global Compact, shared information on positive experiences, and exchanged views on barriers to implementation and ways to overcome them.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Fariz Rzayev also addressed the event. During the speech, information was provided on the progress made by Azerbaijan in the implementation of the Global Compact.
The Global Compact is the first inter-governmentally negotiated agreement, prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, covering all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner.
