The Chief of IOM Azerbaijan delivered a speech at the second session of the International Dialogue on Migration 2022
Baku - On 24-25 October 2022, the second session of the International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) 2022 on the theme “Overlapping global crises: the impacts of food insecurity and climate change on migration and displacement” took place at the Geneva International Conference Center and online with presence of member countries and international organizations.
Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of the IOM Mission to Azerbaijan gave a speech in the 3rd panel discussion on the topic "Strengthening the resilience of the most vulnerable to economic adversity: upskilling, financing jobs and the green economy."
In his speech Vladimir Gjorgjiev highlighted the importance of the IDM conference which provides opportunity to discuss policies and strategies that will enable to strengthen the resilience and adaptation measures for those in need. “We can all learn from good dynamic policies examples that exist in this area and increase our collaboration with partners, work with beneficiaries for the benefit of improvement in climate financing and address vulnerabilities,” said Gjorgjiev.
Gjorgjiev also spoke about one of the mission’s successful projects as a good example which contributes to food, water, environmental and livelihood security that can affect mobility patterns.
"It is a great opportunity for IOM Azerbaijan mission to present a good example of how one specific project named “Integrated Rural Development for IDP communities in Azerbaijan through Revitalization of Kahriz Water Supply System” financed by the Korea International Cooperation Agency can create positive changes in the lives of vulnerable IDPs and build their resilience. This project provides opportunity for those in need to adapt better by providing access to water, increase access to grants and provide business training and handbook to improve their business skills.," noted Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of the IOM Azerbaijan Mission.
Under the title "Overlapping global crises: the impacts of food insecurity and climate change on migration and displacement", the second session of the IDM aims at strengthening action to address the complex interlinkages between climate change, food security and human mobility.
