National Capacity Building on Shelter and Hotline Management for Victims of Trafficking in Azerbaijan
National Capacity Building on Shelter and Hotline Management for Victims of Trafficking in Azerbaijan
Technical assistance on different Counter Trafficking issues is provided to the Government of Azerbaijan on an ongoing basis by the members of the International Working Group on Trafficking in Persons (International TiP WG) composed of IOM, the US Embassy and the OSCE. With the technical assistance from the International TiP WG the Government has established a Special Anti-trafficking Police Unit within the Ministry of Internal Affairs to deal with Counter Trafficking issues. In October 2006 the Government has opened the first shelter for victims of trafficking in Azerbaijan, in the capital city of Baku. The shelter provides victims of trafficking with short-term care and access to legal, medical, and psychological services. The Government plans to open a national toll-free hotline in the near future.
