The Chief of IOM Azerbaijan Meets the Chairman of The Azerbaijan State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs
Baku - On 26 January 2023, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of IOM Mission to Azerbaijan met with Rovshan Rzayev, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs.
Greeting the participants Mr. Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the Azerbaijan State Committee spoke about the activities of international organizations on humanitarian assistance to refugees and internally displaced persons in the country. He provided guests with detailed information about the restoration works carried out in the regained territories. It was noted that the transformation of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur into one of the most beautiful places of Azerbaijan, ensuring the return of internally displaced persons to historical lands is one of the priority areas of state policy.
At the meeting, a detailed discussion of the "First State Program for the Great Return to the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation" and the tasks facing the State Committee took place.
It was noted that the State Committee took the necessary measures to clarify the number of families who intend to return to these territories, assess their social status and employment opportunities.
Vladimir Georgiev noted that the implementation of projects to support internally displaced persons is a matter of moral duty and the Mission is interested in continuing fruitful cooperation with IOM also in the process of returning of IDPs to the regained territories. Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting.
