The International Organization for Migration and the State Committee discussed areas of cooperation
Baku - On April 22, 2020 an online meeting was held between the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Azerbaijan Mr. Vladimir Gjorgjiev and the Head of the International relations and protocol department of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Mr. Vugar Mammadov.
During the meeting several topics were discussed, including the current situation around the world amid coronavirus pandemic, issues the Azerbaijanis abroad are facing as an economic and social outcome of the spread of coronavirus and the ways the government of Azerbaijan and the State Committee supports Azerbaijani diaspora during the ongoing situation. There were also discussions about bilateral cooperation prospective amid Covid-19 crisis and post crisis. The importance to bring together the Azerbaijani community by means of the IOM missions around the world was also underlined. Additionally, it was agreed to organize an online presentation for Azerbaijani Diaspora Youth delivered by the Chief of Mission on 29 April 2020.
Chief of Mission emphasized an importance of assisting Azerbaijanis who got stuck at the borders, lost their jobs and faced numerous other issues due to the outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic. The International Organization on Migration is ready to support Diaspora Committee’s participation at the Global Migration Film Festival. Regarding the Diaspora Youth Summer Camp 2020, Mr. Gjorgjiev expressed willingness from the IOM's side to contribute and support any related dialogues once it is needed.
As agreed on both sides, all the related work will be followed up as soon as the quarantine is over.
