Baku - On 28 September 2021, the IOM mission in Azerbaijan jointly with the State Migration Service (SMS) organized training on “Introduction to Migration: Basic terms and concepts” for the 15 participants - students, participants of the “Migration School” project, volunteers of SMS and other state organizations at the Regional Training Center on Migration.

At the opening ceremony, the Chief of IOM Mission Mr Vladimir Gjorgjiev, and the Chief of the State Migration Service Mr Vusal Huseynov greeted the participants and wished them success, and talked about the importance of the training.

Speaking at the launch of the training, Mr Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of IOM Mission to Azerbaijan highlighted the importance of providing an opportunity to students, migration volunteers to take part in lectures and discussions on migration in order to prepare new generation experts. “This training is like a small part of the iceberg that gives you basic information about migration, with subsequent lectures you will deepen the subject, which in the end allow you to become skilled experts in the field of migration,” said Gjorgiev.

The training course conducted by the expert of IOM Azerbaijan and specialists of SMS was structured into four modules, such as Introduction to Migration; IOM’s role in migration management: Global Compact on Migration; States’ role in migration management – Case study Azerbaijan; Practical aspects of migration policy cycle in Azerbaijan.

At the end of the training, certificates were distributed to participants.

Currently, IOM Azerbaijan and the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan jointly implement the "Supporting the establishment of a Regional Training center on Migration Management in Azerbaijan" project funded by the IOM Development Fund.

The project aims to enhance regional training capacities and cooperation on migration management in Azerbaijan, CIS countries, and beyond via the Regional Training Centre on Migration that will serve as a hub for knowledge sharing, research, and policy dialogue with governments and a broad range of stakeholders in the field of migration in the region.
