Baku - On 19 October 2021, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the IOM Azerbaijan Chief of Mission cordially met with the Head of the Aghdam district executive power Vagif Hasanov. During the meeting, Gjorgjiev delivered the information on the current activities within the IOM project “Integrated Rural Development for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Communities in Azerbaijan through Revitalization of the Kahriz Water Supply System” funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Vladimir Gjorgjiev also updated Hasanov on the work done by the organization in the Aghdam district. He said that the Mission’s kankans have already renovated Shamsi, Heyvali, and Gozlu kahrizes located in Aghdam district within the project. The water from these kahrizes is used for drinking and irrigation. The residents of Ahmadagali, Kolgishlag, Chiragli villages, and Banovshalar settlement of the district are able to use these kahrizes.

In addition to this, he mentioned that IOM Azerbaijan is currently successfully providing humanitarian assistance to conflict-afflicted populations within the project funded by European Commission’s Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) and already 1500 cash-based interventions were provided to the beneficiaries. Vladimir Gjorgjiev expressed gratitude to Hasanov for the support provided to the Mission in the implementation of projects in the territory of Aghdam district.

During the meeting, the importance of the projects implemented by IOM Azerbaijan to meet the needs of the population in drinking and irrigation water, and support conflict-afflicted populations were emphasized.
