IOM Azerbaijan speeds up rehabilitation of ancient kahrizes
IOM Azerbaijan is caring out renovation works in the Karavansaray kahriz located in the Garadaghli village of the Goranboy district with traditional methods within the current IOM Project “Integrated Rural Development for IDP communities in Azerbaijan through Revitalization of Kahriz Water Supply System” financed by KOICA. Despite the difficult working conditions, kankans of IOM Azerbaijan are dedicated to finishing the renovation of the kahriz soon. It should be noted that before renovation there was no water discharge in the kahriz.
Currently, water from Tatoghlu-1 kahriz of the Garadaghli village, which was handed over in August 2022, is used for irrigation of the village fields.
Within the project, IOM Azerbaijan has already renovated 26 kahrizes in Aghdam, Goranboy, Fuzuli, Goygol, and Gazakh districts.
The project aims to provide safe and consistent water supplies for people in the region through the renovation of kahrizes – a traditional, sustainable water supply system.
