IOM Azerbaijan successfully completed training sessions in the field of support for victims of human trafficking and gender-based violence
From 28 February through 26 May 2023, in total 30 women benefited from Leadership, Computer literacy, and Basic accounting courses in the frame of the IOM Counter Trafficking in Persons project funded by USAID. These training sessions were organized in synergy with UNDP at Women Resource Center in Sumgayit city. The objective was to empower women from vulnerable groups in society by improving their digital and soft skills, which will assist them to find safe and stable jobs.
Digital and accounting skills are essential requirements in the employment market today, especially for women who have limited or interrupted formal education. During 48 hours of computer literacy training, 18 beneficiaries learned how to use email, search for information, how to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations via Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint programs.
“Currently I am unemployed, but I want to grow professionally. I do believe that the knowledge of cash accounting, income, and expenses I acquired during the accounting course will help me to manage my personal finance in a reasonable way. I'm already considering enrolling in one of the professional accounting certification programs in order to have advantages when applying for jobs,” says Konul, one of the beneficiaries who completed 48 hours accounting course.
In total 30 beneficiaries attended 32 hours of Leadership skills training that included sessions on the importance of leadership skills at the workplace and in daily life, inspire and communicate effectively, managing conflicts, and negotiation techniques. “I can notice how I changed from the very first days of this course. Now I feel more confident expressing my opinion and presenting myself,” shared her thoughts Yegana expressing appreciation for organizing free-of-charge courses.
USAID’s Countering Trafficking in Persons Activity, implemented by IOM since 2015, assists the Government of Azerbaijan and NGOs to further improve Azerbaijan's effectiveness in preventing and combating trafficking in persons and forced labor as well as addressing gender-based violence. This includes technical and financial support to civil society organizations and shelters that assist potential and actual victims of trafficking and forced labor.
