The representatives of IOM Mission to Azerbaijan visited the Ombudsman Office
Baku - On 20 December 2019, Mr. Vladimir Gjorgjiev, the Chief of IOM Mission to Azerbaijan met with Sabina Aliyeva the new Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The parties outlined a range of views for future collaboration in terms of protection of the rights of migrants, as well as other topics related to current situation of migrants at global and national contexts, legislative framework, and issues related to protection of migrants from potential risks of exploitation and violence.
It was also considered important to take additional socially oriented measures for creating favorable conditions in centers for illegal migrants, including improving conditions for medical care, quality of nutrition, to provide migrants with free legal advice.
At the end of the meeting, the parties noted that they are interested in further mutual cooperation on the topics discussed during the meeting, and that the proposals made will be taken into account in the future cooperation. Next follow up meeting is planned for early 2020.
