Representatives of the UN International Organization for Migration celebrated the UN Day with their colleagues
Baku - On 24 October 2019, Ms. Szabados Argentina the Regional Director of UN IOM’s Regional Office in Vienna for Southeastern Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Vladimir Gjorgjiev, IOM Azerbaijan Chief of Mission participated in a special event commemorating the UN Day organized by UN Office in Azerbaijan at ADA University.
Bringing together some 250 participants from the government, diplomatic community, civil society, academia and mass media, the event highlightened the human stories on how organization transformed lives in Azerbaijan.
President of the UN General Assembly Tijani Muhammad-Bande, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hafiz Pashayev and the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai have spoken in the opening session of the commemoration event.
The session was followed by eight presentations by people who benefitted from cooperation with the UN in various areas.
One of the beneficiaries who made a presentation at the event was Aynur Aghabalayeva, a tailor from Khachmaz district. She talked about how she was assisted in the framework of “Community Resilience to Vulnerabilities” (CRV) project implemented by IOM Azerbaijan and funded by USAID to establish her tailoring business and it changed her life completely. One of the key activities undertaken by IOM under CRV project was supporting the beneficiary community member’s access to livelihoods and income-generating activities.
24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. It marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.
